Volleyball Conditioning: Double Reverse Suicide Sprint

Shake it up! Shake, shake, shake it up!

Bored with the old Suicide Sprints? Well, coaches may not be but I bet players are. After a while, you can run them in your sleep. Am I right?

Well here’s a twist to old original. It’s called Double Reverse Suicide Sprints.

First, it’s your basic suicide sprint.
1. Ten foot line and back.
2. Half court and back.
3. Other ten foot line and back.
4. Far baseline and back.

Then (to shake it up) repeat backwards!
5. Other baseline and back.
6. Other ten and back.
7. Half court and back.
8. Ten foot line and back.

Done! Sounds easy right? Coach, you assign the number to this one based on your volleyball team’s level of in-shaped-ness.

Have fun!

Volleyball: How to hit a slide from a bad pass

Oh great, the pass is off the net. That takes out 1 maybe 2 hitters in our offense. Not necessarily. Sure, a quick for the middle is a little difficult for a setter when the pass is off the volleyball net. But, don’t count out the slide.

Instead of the outside (or middle) running all the way around the setter in a slow, awkward approach to hit a slide, she could take the path closest to the net.

The volleyball drill video below is simply a demonstration of advanced volleyball players running from about Zones 1 or 2 along the net to hit the slide set, which should be in about Zone 9. See screenshot below.
Volleyball net zones

This drill teaches these hitters to see the volleyball from a different angle and to be able to take the quickest path to the set. In the video, the coach represents the setter.
